Eastern State Penitentiary

This is a photo I took when I was a student at Temple University. It was taken at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, a popular photography class field trip destination. Eastern State is a former prison (one time home of Al Capone!) and is considered to be the first real penitentiary in the world. It was the first to introduce the concept of solitary confinement for all prisoners (although it did not last). Today Eastern State is a U.S. National Historic Landmark and a fascinating place to visit and take pictures. If you ever happen to be in the Philadelphia area, it is definitely worth a visit!

The photo is available for purchase in my Etsy shop.
